START YOUR SKINCARE

If you haven’t been able to tell by now, I am obsessed with skincare!! Something in my brain triggered when I turned 30 to be more attentive and careful with the things that I buy and apply to my skin. I realized that it was either start now and take preventative measures or continue to let the force of gravity take its course. It has taken a few trial and error methods but alas, I have my skincare routines down packed. (YES PLURAL! MORNING AND EVENING ROUTINES) My goal is to make sure that you too have your skincare routine going. I hear its never to late to start but its too late if you never start. With this being said, these are my tips to ensure you are choosing the right products for YOU.

First, you need to make sure you know your skin type. Do you have dry skin, oily skin combination skin or sensitive skin? This is crucial because each product you buy has a purpose to attack your special concerns. For example, you don’t want to buy a moisturizer for dry skin when your skin is oily. This can be counterproductive and make you more oily. This is very easy to determine and most of us know the type of skin we have been given.

Next, take a look at your concerns. Its very easy to get to Sephora and buy a bunch of products that we think we may need. Trust me, I have been there, multiple times. I would buy so many things that I just did not need and end up irritating my skin. Start off slow, a face wash and a moisturizer. This is what I like to call, THE TOP 2. Like the sazon of your skincare, your base. Believe me, if you start everything at once, you can actually damage your skin and you won’t know specifically what caused you to have a reaction if you do. Once your TOP 2 is established, move on to under eye cream and a serum. When choosing your serum, be prepared to be bombarded with information because there are so many of them that you wont know where to start. This is where these tips need to kick in. Know your problem areas. Do you want to attack your pores, pimples, dark spots, wrinkles, smoothness. Each serum has its own purpose so choose accordingly.

Of course, you have vitamin c’s, chemical peels, exfoliators, toners, masks, etc. The possibilities are endless. I have very sensitive skin so I don’t use all of these on my skin every day nor do I even use every single type of skincare product that exist because it can also be overwhelming to your skin. Make sure that you know what you want so you don’t get sucked in to buying a plethora of products you will never use.

I am by no means a professional but as a skincare junkie I have come across my fair share of experiences. I’d hate for your guys to spend money on unnecessary products.

Remember, we only have ONE SKIN! So we need to make sure that we are taking care of it, nurturing it and loving it ! Like I told my friend,  don’t approach this like a chore.  Make it a part of your day that you truly enjoy, kind of like a pamper yourself kind of moment. As you age, you will be thankful you were ahead of the game.
